The story

The Crown plunges us into the history of Great Britain, and more precisely into the youth of Queen Elizabeth II. The latter found herself in power much earlier than expected, following the death of her father. Through this series, Netflix offers us to rediscover a whole section of history, shortly after the Second World War. For Claire Foy: " The series is a drama, but can also help the public to discover things he does not know about the history of England and the history of the royal family ."

This character, unlike any other, is perhaps his best performer on screen: " Queen Elizabeth II is a woman whom everybody thinks they know, but no one really knows. an enigma, a mystery ".

Why do we look at The Crown?

For anyone who has a passion for the royal family of England, The Crown is a must-have series that brings a whole series of drama to life through a dramatic series. In order to be sure to offer the public a series that is as close as possible to the truth, both actors and production have implemented particularly important means.

Matt Smith, interpreter of Prince Philip, says: " One of the things I like most about this series is its historical aspect, and I learned a lot about the royal family in the country and especially about Philip ". How? Thanks to a great deal of research, at first: " We consulted video and sound documents, read books on the history of the monarchy ... ". But also, through a lot of work: " To bring even more truthfulness, we have worked our accents with a vocal coach ." Claire Foy confirms: " We have also received the precious help of a person who knows everything about Buckingham Palace, who helps us to ensure that every detail is perfect ."

We recognize here the need for precision, which has become one of the trademarks of Netflix. The VOD platform has invested an incredible $ 140 million for 10 episodes, making it one of the most expensive series in history. So, everything has an interest in being perfect.

The Crown: what did we like?

Netflix has seen things big, and the result is there. First detail that allows viewers to be anchored in the universe of the series? The way the characters are presented. From the first episodes, we know their desires, their history, their personality, their secret desires ... And this thanks to the total investment of the actors. Claire Foy, the new rising star of television, plays Queen Elizabeth II in spite of her fear: " The objective of the series is precisely to follow its evolution, as it seeks to find its role, place, which is complicated ".

Result? She is a character who is a true source of inspiration for women around the world: " She hung on herself, fought for her ideas and values, and, above all, has never let anyone prevent her from giving the best of herself. Her life has not been so perfect and easy as we want to believe . "

Most notable, especially thanks to his role in the Doctor Who series, Matt Smith is simply overwhelming in the role of a man who finds it difficult to find his place. " Philip is a character who finds himself blocked between two universes. On the one hand, he is a man, a husband and a father, with a career, desires. the consort of the queen, which is superior to him, which affects him in his virility, at the time it was the opposite: men were supposed to be at the head of the family. nonconformist, an enigma, really ". The actor succeeds in turn to be funny, moving, in love, angry ... A real chameleon.

A hat-trick also for the realization as for the decors: the universe created is grand, it catches the public. The emotion is present, the thrill too. Season one is undeniably successful, and we are looking forward to season 2, already in filming.

You'll love it if ...

Difficult to not make the comparison with other British series, such as Downton Abbey . Is the show its worthy successor? Matt Smith prefers to remain cautious: " I think you have to be careful not to compare yourself to other series. The Crown is a new show, with its own ambitions, and it will have to prove its worth " .

Others will also have in mind Wolf Hall , also with Claire Foy (in the role of Queen Anne Boleyn), who told the story of the royal family in 1520. But for the actress, the two characters " could not be different ".

In any case, one thing is certain: if you love History, the monarchy and the grandiose series, you will be seduced.
