The story

Polar Day is above all the story of a murder. In Kiruna , a Swedish town close to the Arctic Circle, a French citizen was violently and mysteriously assassinated. Kahina Zadi , the French captain of the Central Office for the Suppression of Violence against Persons, is therefore in charge of the investigation.

To elucidate this mystery, she will have to work together with prosecutor Anders Harnesk , but also with the local police. And this will prove to be more complicated than expected.

Why do we look at Polar Day?

In recent years, Canal has started a real turn, and proposes more and more quality French series. It had begun with Les Revenants, and continued with programs such as Versailles, Braquo and Engrenages. With this new original creation, the encrypted channel could well hold one of the big successes of this end of the year.

Moreover, the casting alone is worth the detour. In the lead role, we find Leïla Bekhti, who has made himself known through his roles in All That Shines , or We Three or Nothing . She shares the poster with the Swedish Gustaf Hammarsten , little known by the French public, but very appreciated in his country of origin.

Additional proof of a success announced? The Franco-Swedish series will be broadcast in nine other countries, as Belgium, Germany, Israel, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Benelux bought the broadcasting rights.

Polar Day: what has more?

By choosing the polar circle for his shooting, the Polar Day series brings something never-seen in the history of thrillers of the small screen: no scene turned night!

Yes, at that time, in the middle of the polar summer, the sun never sets. This greatly changes the situation in terms of creating a slightly anxiety-filled atmosphere. The permanent day is perhaps even more confusing.

In his first major role on television, Leïla Bekhti also unveils a new facet of his talent, while discovering a new way of playing. For good reason, until now, the young woman had touched only the cinema (brilliantly) , confining its roles on the small screen to a few telefilms.

You'll love it if ...

If you devour thrillers, whether in book, serial or film, Polar Day has quite the potential to seduce you.

The series does not play on the usual codes of police series, far from it. This new program is in line with the quality series of Canal , more in the genre of Revenants than Braquo .

Nordic series fans should be waiting for you: if you liked Bron, The Killing or telefilms Millenium, this news is for you.
