A recent report on France 5 points to the use of sulphates in shower gels . We take stock.

What is sulphates?

Originally used in cleaning products as detergents, sulphates now invade cosmetic treatments, including hair products. Very foaming, sulphates are surfactants used in shampoos and shower gels to emulsify, so eliminate fat and impurities. The most common are sodium laureth sulfate and ammonium lauryl sulfate.

Why is it bad?

By dint of using hair products containing sulphates, the scalp is fragile because it is left without protection and irritated more easily. They are also accused of stripping the hair fiber and of staining pigments. They are also pointed at because they would favor the appearance of dandruff . In short, they have nothing to please! The irritation is also seen on the skin. Using too often shower gels formulated with sulphates, the skin loses its protective barrier and the epidermis is irritated.

When to prefer sulphate-free cosmetics?

When you have dry and sensitive skin it is better to carefully inspect its shower gels, bubble baths, soaps ... and favor sulphate-free shower products. Same behavior on the hair products side. When the hairy ear tends to scratch or when the hair is weakened by staining , the sulphates are tracked.
Cosmetics without sulphates do not foam almost, so it is not worth putting a double dose of product in the hope of lather! Info capital: the care of the body or hair "without sulphates" are as clean and effective as the "classic" versions.
