According to the recommendations of the British company of pedicures-podologists (SCP) certain shoes should not be worn when one is pregnant.

CPC relies on the responses of a thousand pregnant women interviewed at the end of May, in which the respondents indicated that they were under pressure to prefer style to well-being. 32% were wearing high heels, 53% were ballerinas, 66% were flip-flops, and 30% were Ugg boots.

Unsurprisingly, 70% had "foot problems like swollen ankles (37%), swollen feet (45%), and arch and heel pain (16%)."

Lorraine Jones, a pedicure and CPA member, explains: " Weight gain and hormonal changes during pregnancy have a major impact on the body. Muscles and ligaments are softening and stretching due to an increase an ovarian hormone that makes the feet more prone to tension in the ankles and ligaments on a daily basis. High heels alter the posture, shorten the muscles of the calves and increase pressure on the back and knees. "

"Footwear such as ballerinas, flip flops and Ugg boots are not recommended daily during pregnancy as they do not provide the necessary support for the feet," says Lorraine Jones.

The SCP enjoins moms-to-be "to wear comfortable, secure shoes, ideally with a strap, laces or Velcro." Choose a heel height of 3 cm , as it moves the weight a little more the front of the feet, which can help reduce discomfort. "

Choose shoes that hold the arch , allow good shock absorption, and have a firm heel, recalls the SCP, which emphasizes that one should not cross one's legs or ankles in a sitting position .

The CPS also recommends that you buy your shoes late in the afternoon when your feet are at their maximum size , and make sure that it remains 1 cm between the longest toe and the tip of the shoe .

The CPA recommendations, released on June 15, are based on data from an online survey of one thousand pregnant women or young mothers (less than two years old), conducted by One Poll, and fieldwork, between 23 and 30 May.
