Every day, our outfit is well thought out, but there is one thing we do not necessarily think about: our health. Between the toxic products in our clothes and the irritating natural materials, our skin is put to the test. To protect it, here is the guide of materials to banish from our wardrobe.

  • Synthetic materials

It's no secret that synthetic materials are full of chemical molecules, some of which are very harmful to health. Acrylic, polyester, artificial silk, acetate, nylon ... Toxic and allergenic materials that are unfortunately found in many of our favorite ready-to-wear brands.

  • Wool

Those who have dry skin will tell you, the irritating matter is often hidden where it is not expected. One of the most irritating substances for the skin is surprisingly 100% natural: wool . It can cause flares of eczema, and this, for all types of skin.

  • Bamboo

Bamboo, this ecological fiber that brings softness and fluidity to our clothes, is actually not very recommended. In its natural state, bamboo is stiff and rough. According to a Patagonia brand study, the process of transforming bamboo to its mildest state releases toxic chemicals (carbon disulfide, sodium hydroxide, and sulfuric acid) that are not just bad for the skin but that carry also affects the reproductive system.

  • The fabric "wrinkle"

Magic crease-resistant fabric? Rather stuffed with methanal, also called formaldehyde, a chemical considered a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

  • Nickel buttons

Would our favorite jeans be the worst enemy of our skin? Buttons containing nickel, very present on the pants, skirts, and even in the armatures of bras, are actually very irritating for the skin. They can trigger skin allergy and severe irritation.

  • Latex

Used for the manufacture of trousers, gloves, and even hair elastics, latex is everywhere. However, it is an allergenic substance that causes the appearance of small blisters and redness on the skin. More importantly, it happens that these allergies are manifested in difficulty breathing or vomiting.

  • Synthetic leather

To buy synthetic leather pants rather than "real" leather pants is to make a strong gesture for the planet (and our wallet). Protect the animal cause, yes, but be careful not to leave your skin there. Like any type of synthetic material, faux leather confines the skin, preventing it from breathing and promoting body perspiration. A boon for bacteria, which synthetic materials are unable to absorb, creating an environment conducive to their development.

If this is not enough to convince you to abandon synthetic leather, know that the friction between the skin and the "fake" leather, is favorable to allergic reactions. Finally, better to afford a pretty dress.
