Like the hair, the nails undergo the changes of season, the vagaries of the time, the shocks. Like them, they become fragile if they are too often assaulted. To know how to repair very damaged nails , brittle, yellowed or split and know how to pamper them daily, we asked Marie, nail manager at Gloss'Up, to give us all her tips.

The first advice of the expert? Let the nails breathe between two manicures: "The nail is not made to be permanently covered with varnish, it needs to breathe because the keratin that composes it and allows its growth hardens in the open air. Between each application of varnish one thus takes the habit of leaving a week of respite to our nails.

Concerning the laying of the varnish, Marie specifies that it is essential to follow the correct procedure: "a protective base, two layers of varnish and a top coat".

Thus, not only the manicure holds longer, but the nail is also preserved. And contrary to popular belief, "it is not only between two applications of semi-permanent varnish - a formula that allows a long-lasting manicure - that we must give a pause to its nails," she insists .

Hydration, the key to healthy nails

To give a detox more intense to its nails, once a year, they are left not only bare but also without care, for a month to a month and a half. As for the hair, the nail needs to start on a good basis to repel better: "Every two days, we pass a slight nail file to make the edge grow better," says Marie.

If she recommends the regular use of hardening, whitening, protective care according to the needs of each, the professional recommends especially a good hydration of the matrix of the nail and the cuticles.

"The more the hydrates the matrix of the nail, the more the nail is strengthened and prepared." It is therefore customary to hydrate its cuticles with a hand and nail cream or, better, with a vegetable oil or a complex of oils - preferably apricot, avocado or sweet almond oil - regularly. If the ideal is to do this daily, following this ritual 2 to 3 times a week is already remarkable.

Japanese manicure detox to the rescue of damaged nails

Finally, for very damaged nails, Marie recommends applying a very fat balm like homeoplasmin, which repairs the matrix.

She also admits to be a follower of the Japanese detox manicure, which consists of filing and nicking the nail, pushing the cuticles, apply a first paste based on beeswax with a file of chamois, to be applied later a powder and then moisturize. Result: nails reinforced and repaired!
