Because it is not always easy to wear a colorful smile with a matte finish without his lipstick drying out the lips, file or, worse, pile up in unsightly pies at the corner of the mouth, we have asked Elsa Durrens, make up artist Chanel, to give us her tips for applying and lengthening her matte lipstick .

We love the light mouths, the dark and deep-hued lipsticks, the greedy reds, the velvet mouth is undoubtedly the trend of the moment. To adopt it, we respect some simple rules.

  • We gum and moisturize the lips

This is the first step and the most important, but it is also the one on which many are the impasse.

"The advantage of the matte lipstick is that it does not run, its weak point: it tends to dry out the lips," says make up artist Elsa Durrens. To counteract this unpleasant and unsightly effect, one hydrates and gums one's lips before applying lipstick. But no matter how.

For the scrub, you can mix a little sugar in honey and apply it on the lips, or soak a cotton of hot water, let it pose before gently rubbing the lips.

For hydration, Elsa Durrens advises against the application of a balm fat, which might prevent the lipstick to adhere. We hydrate our lips, just by drinking water!

  • We choose a pigmented matte lipstick (not glossy)

Today, we find almost all the desired colors in a matte version. Once the color of lipstick chosen, it is especially the texture that must be lingered, because there is no secret: for a nice velvet mouth, the choice of lipstick is the l 'flagship step.

The top according to Elsa Durrens? "The lipstick that combines an intense color that lasts and a texture that does not shine but remains comfortable".

To find this rare pearl, you must try several. The new lip inks are perfect for this: liquid at application, they then take a rather comfortable matte finish. But some will prefer the classic sticks. It's up to you to see what you prefer.

Note that there are also lipsticks that make any dull red.

  • Apply clear shades to the finger

If one opts for a rather pale shade of lipstick, from pink to orange to red, Elsa Durrens recommends applying the product to the finger. Or at least melt it. Thus, the finish will be more natural and "less dramatic".

We choose a rather pale shade to remain in the discretion, the technique of the fade to the finger is perfect for a soft texture, matte and comfortable . We can take the material directly on our red stick with our finger and then apply it on the lips, or apply the red on the lips and melt with the fingertips patting.

  • We think to draw the outline of the lips with the dark colors

When you like lipsticks with darker and more vibrant shades, you emphasize the lips with a lip pencil.

"For the darker shades, prefer the graphic version of a perfectly drawn mouth by starting out with a tone-on-tone pencil outline," advises Elsa Durrens.

Then, once the outline is underlined by a line of lip pencil, fill the lip pulp with your lipstick. You can also use a lip brush for a specific application.

  • We retouch for matte lips without defects

There is no secret, if matte lipsticks are less likely to spin, some of us fail to keep a mouth masked from morning till night.

For retouching on a matte texture, Elsa Durrens advises to slightly erase the lips in their center. Indeed, there is usually a higher pigment deposit at this location.

"Moisten your lips, use a piece of tissue or a paper towel, or even better, a piece of sugar," she says.
