With her, no question of using the scalpel or practicing anesthesia: it is the cold that dislodges the beads. It is cryolipolysis, a non-invasive method for eliminating localized fat mass.

True revolution in the aesthetic world, this technique could well, in the long term, dethrone the famous liposuction .

The origins of cryolipolysis ...

It all began in the 1970s in the United States when doctors realized that children who were advised to eat Eskimo to soothe their dental pain developed dimples. A first link is then established between cold and a potential loss of fat.

Ten years later, a study shows that riders used to ride astride in winter develop cold panniculitis. This pathology, which causes a melting of the subcutaneous fat, is due to the friction of their legs coupled to a very low temperature.

Doctor Dieter Manstein and researcher Rox Anderson, eminent specialists at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Harvard University (USA), do not need any more to make several observations and publish scientific studies on the phenomenon.

Cryolipolysis was born.

Slimming through the cold: how does it work?

The process of cryolipolysis reproduces the effect of cold on localized roundness and initiates apoptosis, the natural death of adipocytes (fat cells).

During the three months following a session, a maximum of 25% of the dead fat cells are eliminated by the lymphatic system, while the others condense, reducing the thickness of the adipose layer.

And it is thanks to the Coolsculpting Zeltiq®, currently the only reference system for cryolipolysis, that magic operates.

Placing on the market in 2008 and approved two years later by the FDA (American Food and Drug Agency, the equivalent of ANSM in France), this machine is equipped with applicators-suction cups adapted to different zones of the body treat. Each of them is equipped with measuring instruments capable of evaluating an ideal temperature (which can be as low as -11 ° C) depending on the tissue thickness and body temperature to destroy the fat cells without risk of burning.

Which areas to target with cryolipolysis?

    • The belly and the "love handles".
    • Buttocks: "breeches", folds under the buttocks.
    • The thighs: internal / external face.
    • The arms: internal / external face.
    • Knees.
    • The back: "wings of angels".
    • The double chin.

How is a Coolsculpting® session?

Initially, the dermatologist or aesthetic doctor examines the area to be treated and judges whether the greasy cluster is "suckable" or not by the applicator.

During a second appointment, place to the session of Coolsculpting®. The specialist affixes the applicator to the chosen zone in order to aspirate it and to cool it for 35 minutes.

Once the applicator is removed, the skin, totally frozen and strangely resembling an ice cube, is massaged to warm and relax the tissues.

What follow-up after the meeting?

After the session, you can notice a slight feeling of discomfort and aches that may last a few days. Temporary swelling and redness are also likely to occur.

On the other hand, nothing prevents us from returning to work or practicing a sporting activity in the hours and days following the intervention.

It is entirely possible to repeat one or more sessions on the same area if the expected result is not satisfied after the first session.

Cryolipolysis : contraindications

Cryolipolysis is contraindicated for pregnant women, but also for obese people. Indeed, it does not allow to eliminate the visceral fat, only sub-dermal fat.

Cold-related pathologies such as Raynaud's disease or cryoglobulinemia and those suffering from hernia should also be discontinued.

How much does it cost ?

It takes about 500 euros per zone. The deed is not reimbursed by the Social Security.
