What is an air purifier?

Indoor air pollution in our apartment or house is 2 to 8 times higher than outdoor pollution. A scary figure especially when living in an urban area. The causes of this indoor pollution are many: room fragrances, scented candles , cleaning products, tobacco, mold problems or chipboard furniture . All this is harmful and can lead to allergies or irritations everyday. This is where the air purifier comes in , which, as its name suggests, purifies the air in our interior.

How does an air purifier work?

The purifier processes and filters the incoming air for it to come out pure . It is triggered only when the air is polluted and is transportable from one room to another (the living room during the day, the room at night for example). The choice of air purifier also depends on its capacity per m2. The power of a purifier is variable depending on whether it is a room of 30 m2 or 80 m2. In addition, a good renewal of indoor air can not be done without a specific triptych : ventilate the rooms of the house every day (at least 10 minutes in the morning and evening), change the bad habits avoiding all sources of indoor pollution and use an air purifier as a last resort. The most used and safest technique (according to the UFC-Que Choisir) is air filtration. The air purifier then contains several filters (at least 3) with different roles, filtering:
- dust, hair and hair
- bad smells, cigarette smoke
- molds and mites

Some filters are washable , others must be changed on average every year (the price of a filter costs about 60/70 euros).

What's the point ?

According to a recent study by Rowenta (Germany), 57% of users who have used a 6-month air purifier sleep better, 70% of users breathe better and 68% see an improvement in their health. The air purifier improves the well-being of urban no longer tolerant of ambient pollution. In recent years, the air purifier is part of a nascent and growing market for those who want a cleaner indoor air. Alone and big flat: it takes between 280 and 1,000 euros on average to get an air purifier.
