The tattoo to find your body after a breast surgery

Breast cancer currently affects nearly 1 in 8 women in France. No one comes out unscathed. Stricken by the disease, then operated, there is enough to keep marks. And with regard to scars, some women simply choose to hide them under a tattoo . On the Internet, we can see more and more pictures of women who are tattooed with a pink ribbon on the scar line or a border of flowers.

In contrast to underboobs tattoos , some tattoos completely include breast , natural or reconstructed. We also see many beautiful large flowers that cover the area. Like a climbing plant that finds its way whatever the obstacles or hazards.

Sometimes the tattoo is more discreet on the breast operated . Thus some women simply choose to have a tattoo nipple because they say they are embarrassed by the vision of their body where the nipple is no longer there. "Adding a tattoo allows these women to fully integrate their reconstructed, impersonal breast, by printing their signature," observes Catherine Adler-Tal, oncopsychologist and vice-president of the association Etincelle Ile-de-France, in an article of Rose Magazine devoted to the subject (Hope is in the skin, Rose Magazine, Fall-Winter 2016-2017).

Post-cancer tatoo: the p.ink initiative

Personal Ink or p.ink is an American association that connects women with breast cancer and experienced tattooists who are used to working on scars. The association puts forward on its site ( p.ink.org ) tattoo proposals made on women who had a mastectomy . P.Ink also organizes p.ink days in October (14 cities in 2016) to talk about the post-cancer tattoo. On this occasion, tattoo artists tattoo women for free.   For p.ink, tattooing is a third way beside breast reconstruction or non-reconstruction.

What precautions before a tattoo if you have had breast cancer?

It usually takes a year for the scar to be more progressive . You must also carefully choose your tattoo parlor to reduce the risk of infection or allergy. In case of recurrence, if a new operation is necessary tattooing does not pose any particular problem: it may however be changed. As for radiotherapy, so far there is no study on the subject.
